Mas Jullien's Terrasses du Larzac "Lous Rougeos" is made from aged Carignan, Syrah and Grenache vines located at an altitude of 400 meters, on a limestone scree balcony overlooking the village of Saint Privat. These were the village's wine lands, and every family was obliged to own a small piece for their own consumption. Abandoned for several decades, the original vineyard has been re-established, the dry stone walls rebuilt, the missing vines replanted and the old vines cultivated... 15 years of work to restore the identity of an unrivalled place. Respect for the land takes on its full meaning in this wild place. Organic cultivation, biodynamic practices, home-made compost, mineral treatments and plant macerations, ploughing, weeding, short pruning, debudding, thinning if necessary, manual harvesting, multiple and severe sorting... The result is one of the estate's freshest wines, delivering all the terroir and magic of the place. Set the table, look at the landscape, or close your eyes...
Olivier Jullien was born in Jonquières, a small village nestled in the heart of what would later become the Terrasses du Larzac appellation. He founded Mas Jullien in 1985 and, vintage after vintage, became the spearhead of the Languedoc wine revival. He is a man of passion, a man of integrity, a man who is constantly questioning himself, a man who leads an endless quest towards a constantly renewed goal.A man whom everyone respects, as much for his work as for his kindness and humility. He even goes so far as to part with parcels of land to acquire others on more promising terroirs, so as not to become too big and detract from the quality care he lavishes on his vines.A true role model for a whole generation of winegrowers, he is now one of the pantheon of Languedoc winegrowers, known and recognized by his peers.Wines that leave no one indifferent, that need to be tasted after a few years of patience to realize the extent of the thought that went into this winemaker from the outset, at the foot of the stump.
